Rasp spurs and a busy week

These are headed to a team roper in east Texas. They have a 1 1/2 inch shank and a 1inch clover rowel.

In the last 10 days we have had 2 ice storms and a snow storm. It is currently back to 70 degrees, with 80 predicted by Sunday. I, for one, am sick of winter and the broad range of temperatures we have had this year. The top was my drive home Tuesday.

Doctoring a sick one

We spent the afternoon at doc Blazor's Thursday testing bulls to go on our heifers in April. All went well for our corriente and angus/corriente cross bulls. All 18 get to go have fun this spring.

Clay Koenig and I teamed up on these buckles, Clay doing the silver work, and me doing the steel. Clay can be found on face book, and puts out some very nice cowboy style jewelry.

Gal leg spurs

These are 1018/203e/nickel damascus 1 piece spurs.
 I stick to Texas style bits and spurs for the most part, and nothing says Texas style better than the gal leg design. Tom Johnson Sr. was making these in Coleman, Tx( next town south of us) in the late 1800's. I'm sure there were earlier versions, but he was the first to have a name for making them.

These spurs have a 2 1/2 inch shank, with a six point, 1 1/2 inch rowel. Nate will be the envy of the Stanford area, sporting these around the coffee shop.

Yes, that is ice in the picture. We can't buy a decent snow or rain. Just ice and wind, which hurts our winter grazing, and makes it tough to get around. It has been a tough winter and is going to last a long time according to my forecaster.

This was an interesting project. Something different anyway. This handle will go to raw hide braider Billy Albin, who will work his magic, then it will be on his table at the Western Heritage Classic in Abilene, Texas in May.

Bits, spurs and knives

I spent my shop time today finishing up a lot of things. Shop time has been a little scarce the last couple of weeks, we've been getting some cattle in, and though they have been easy to straighten out, they have been time consuming. Plus, its been cold, and cold just makes me tired anymore.
